Free Flash Game of the Day: Endless Migration

Endless Migration by HotAirRaccoon

For my first Flash Game of the Day I would like to review one of my old favorites. For those of you who frequent Kongregate.com you should recognize this one as their badge of the day today.

Endless Migration takes the “dodge everything” idea to a new level. It uses a similar concept as “Snake” by essentially making you bigger the longer you play. This of course makes it harder to dodge the various aircraft coming at you while also giving you the advantages of backup birds and higher scores.

Gameplay: 5/5
No real complaints here. The mouse input is smooth. The movement feels fluid and natural. As you get farther and there are more aircraft to dodge it starts to feel quite intense.

Graphics: 4/5
While simplistic they are very well done. There is a 3D (or is it 2.5D) feel to the background. Everything is smooth looking and recognizable. They graphics don’t blow you away by any means but they don’t distract you at all from the game play.

Sound: 4/5
Nice background music, although a little repetitive. It did have me reaching for the mute button after a while though (luckily there was one). The geese honking sounds like geese honking. The geese smashing into UFOs sound like geese smashing into UFOs.

Polish: 5/5
It has all the little things. The menus are nice. There are multiple levels of background and foreground that change and you go giving you a more realistic feel. There is an achievement and an upgrade system. It has detailed and useful instructions but doesn’t force you to read them. Very well put together.

Replayability: 2/5
While the game is quite fun there isn’t much to keep you going after you get all the achievements. Unfortunately that is fairly easy to do. The very last achievement for me to get was the “Frequent Flyer Miles” one where you have to play the game 25 times. That wouldn’t be so bad except that I got the rest of them after only 13 gameplays, forcing me to start 12 more just to get the last achievement. I say forcing because I didn’t really feel like playing any more after getting the others.

Multiplayer: N/A

Overall (not an average):4/5
It’s a fun simple game and a great time waster. It may not take long to finish everything and for the “see how long I can go” factor to ware off but if you give it a break and come back a few weeks or months later (like I did) you’ll find it’s just as fun as the first time.
